Thinking of getting in touch about your project? Before you do, here’s a list of frequently asked questions and their answers.
Q. How much will it cost to edit my book?
A. I base my rates on word count, type and depth of editing, turnaround time, and industry standards. Expect rates between $45 and $75 CAD/hr.
Q. What payment methods do you accept?
A. You can pay by e-transfer or credit card.
Q. Do you accept payment via installments?
A. Yes. A typical scenario is 30% upfront, and the remainder in two equal payments. We can discuss a plan that works for both of us.
Q. Once we decide to work together, what’s the next step?
A. We will sign an electronic editorial contract that we both agree upon.
Q. Will you do a free sample edit?
A. No, but I am happy to do a sample edit for a fee.
Q. How long does it take to edit my work? What happens after you’re done?
A. Each manuscript has unique needs in this regard. A 60,000-word memoir that requires heavy copy editing, for instance, would take 4 to 6 weeks. An evaluation for a 3,000-word short story might need three to five days. After I have submitted the work to you, I will be available to discuss any of the proposed edits or suggestions via email or we can have a Zoom call at a pre-determined date for a set amount of time.
Q. Once I’ve made my revisions based on your edits, will you look it over?
A. I can do that, but this would be considered a new project requiring a new contract and fee.
Q. Can you connect me with publishers and agents?
A. No, because my priority is helping you put together the best manuscript possible for its intended audience.
Q. Do you offer book coaching?
A. I am a supportive editor who offers great advice, but not a book coach.
